Welcome!
This blog post will be discussing the difference between soft enamel and hard enamel pins.
It comes down to personal preference how you want your finished pin to look.
Soft Enamel
Soft enamel only has one layer of enamel ink, the outline - or stamping, is the same method as hard enamel, but the enamel ink sits in "pockets" - soft enamel is recessed, with raised outline and has a "bumpy" feel.
Pros:
Cartoon-like look
Can be quite detailed
Detail can be achieved from 25mm
Line thickness from .3mm
Cons:
Can't do gradient colours
Not good for overly shaded designs
Simplified
Hard Enamel
Hard enamel has layers of enamel built up, and then polished flat to a smooth non-raised finish. This gives a higher quality finish, and looks especially great with gold or silver based metals.
Pros:
For gold / silver plates - including copper it gives a very high quality finish
Sizing from 15mm - and the detail can be very high
Pin above is 25mm
Cons:
More expensive
